Environmental responsibility

At UniCredit Bank, we take environmental protection seriously and act accordingly. From investing in energy-efficient technologies and waste sorting to reducing paper consumption and promoting green transport. We actively help outside the office as well. Our employees regularly participate in various volunteer activities.

Our activities

Transitioning to environmentally friendly technologies

Energy savings are an investment. That's why we recently replaced all old fluorescent lights with energy-efficient LED lighting at our headquarters and branches. Where possible, we have installed heat pumps and solar panels. We have also lined the shop windows with thermal insulation film to prevent heat loss.

However, small changes are just as important when they add up. For example, our logos and advertisements are automatically turned off at all branches after 10 p.m..

We sort and recycle

Of course, we have bins for plastic, paper and glass everywhere. At our Czech headquarters, we also sort metal and organic waste. And we regularly remind our employees how important sorting is.  We always try to donate unwanted items that could be useful to someone else. We give office furniture to non-profit organisations, nurseries and fire stations. We also collect old clothes.

TIP

Did you know that…?

Since 2023, we have implemented a company-wide ban on single-use plastics. This commitment extends across all our spaces—from client areas to our offices.

Paper? No, and if necessary, recycled paper

We switched from paper to digital documents, so we now use 63% less paper than in 2019. E, even though we have many more clients. If we really need to print something, we only use recycled paper. Since 2024, we haven't ordered any other type of paper. With this step, we are strengthening our commitment to sustainability across all our workplaces.

Bikes and electric cars have the green light here

We have taken steps to make it easier for our employees to cycle to work. Most of our workplaces, including our headquarters and branches, offer secure parking for bicycles. And at our headquarters, employees can also take a shower and change their clothes. This applies even if they arrive on foot. And battery-powered athletes riders can recharge their electric bikes, electric cars or any other electric vehicles at our Czech headquarters. We simply support green transport in all its forms.

We also help nature directly

We know that thinking about nature in our offices is not enough. As volunteers, we regularly participate in tree planting, forest cleaning and landscape restoration projects. The results are immediately visible, and we are always eager to roll up our sleeves and do it again next year.

Every year, we volunteer for the initiatives Sázíme stromy and Sadíme stromy pre našu budúcnosť. In the Czech Republic, we have already planted thousands of trees and helped restore forests affected by bark beetles in the Vysočina region.

In Slovakia, we collaborated with the Bratislava Regional Association for Nature Conservation (BROZ) to save for example a natural alluvial forest in the protected area of Istragov near Gabčíkovo.

We regularly share updates about our tree‑planting activities on our LinkedIn.

In the Dunajské luhy Protected Landscape Area behind Vlčí hrdlo in Bratislava, we cleared the forest of old forestry fencing. In total, we removed 300 metres of wire mesh that could have injured forest animals. At the same time, we helped restore the local natural alluvial meadows. All this is part of the Pomožme prírodě initiative and in cooperation with the Bratislava Regional Association for Nature Conservation (BROZ).
